== Journal Entry == <blockquote style="background-color: #00000010; padding: 0.3em 0.7em 0.3em 0.7em;">"Malkarions are supposed to be extinct. Should have known they were hiding out in the Maelstrom’s heart. " Even the most jaded Slayers can't deny the reality before them when they find themselves face-to-face with the legendary Malkarion: they are hunting nothing less than a shock dragon. It can be easy for those hunting their first Malkarion to succumb to the lure of legend, imagining they are walking in the footsteps of the First Slayer and bearding a noble myth in its den. But Kat Sorrel is quick to remind her Slayers there is nothing noble about the aggressive, spiteful, and opportunistic version of "myth" that emerged from the heart of the Maelstrom atop a chain of islands riddles with charged shock aether and crackling archonite. It will do everything it can to destroy a Slayer, so Slayers would be wise to return the favour Malkarions are strong flyers, but won't overdo the effort unless they're in a real fight. They will glide to their destination if unthreatened, but begin to circle and swoop if challenged or even threatened. Quick to return any aggressive action from a Slayer with ten times the fury, the Malkarion's ever-escalating anger has made Kat nickname them "Prickly the Electric Dragon." Dr. Priyani, on the other hand, has informed her field researchers and Behemoth scouts that using any of Kat's Behemoth nicknames in official communication could get them sent back to St. Avellaine to sort the Orrery’s library. The entire library. Slayers have developed many new maneuvers and tactics to counter the Malkarion’s significant advantages in speed, size, and altitude. Most significantly, Arkan Drew has implemented an adjustment to lantern designs that allows a Slayer to tether themselves to the Malkarion’s back and do real harm to the beast as long as you have the stamina to hold on. Kat’s Hunting Tips: -Malkarion’s shock projectiles can be deflected for heavy damage. -Mount the Malkarion’s back to put the focused damage on the head or tail. -If the Malkarion’s takes a teammate in its mightyjaws, it's not too late. Hurt the Behemoth as much as possible and the lethal bite may be broken. -If you are caught in a Malkarion’s jaws, you can escape using some dash abilities such as the dash built into the Koshai’s Bloom lantern.</blockquote>
